Route from Bareilly
Bareilly → Delhi → Jammu → Katra. Total distance: approximately 650–700 km. This is typically done over 2 days — overnight in Jammu or Katra, then the trek to the shrine.
The Trek to the Shrine
From Katra (the base town), the shrine is 14.5 km on foot (or by horse/pony/palanquin). The track is well-maintained and lit at night. Average trekking time: 4–5 hours one way. Fit pilgrims do it in under 3 hours.
Helicopter service is also available from Sanjhichhat (short 2 km trek) or Bhawan helipad — subject to weather and availability.
Best Time to Visit
The shrine is open year-round. Best months: March–June and September–November. Navratri (April and October) is extremely crowded — book accommodation 2–3 months in advance.
